Description

Complex gas structures and dark lanes of cosmic dust burst forth in a flurry of light and shadow within this beautiful HII region.
Found between the Northern constellations of Cepheus and Lacerta, Sharpless 132 is often called the Lion Nebula due to it's resemblance to the big cat.
The gasses within this faint emission nebula are ionized by massive stars, including several Type B stars and two Wolf-Rayet stars, including WR153.
This close-up image focuses in on an area near the lion's fiery mane and is depicted in SHO (Hubble) palette. Total integration includes 15h25' of narrowband data and 2h40' of RGB stars.
